Sophocles Alexiou

When Sophocles first started out in photography, it was landscapes and the world around him that enchanted him….he was often up early in the morning, looking for and making images.

However, as his portrait business grew and he made his mark in that genre, the years passed and, as has happened to many artists, as the business side of things took over he could no longer afford the luxury of taking the time out that location photography demands.

In 2008 and 2009, some overseas commissions taking him away from the studio environment, re-ignited his passion and he has now gathered a small but growing collection of his personal work that he wishes to share.

Sophocles says, ‘ These images are intended to hang as art. They will evoke feelings in some viewers and not in others…that is the nature of all art though. I have tried to keep quality in mind through the whole process, from capture right through to print and presentation.’

Sophocles is Fellow of the British Institute of Professional Photography and a Fellow of the Master Photographers Association. He is the recipient of the Peter Grugeon Award - one of the Institute's highest honour.
He has also been presented with three European Kodak Gold Awards. Other accolades include BPPA Family Portrait Photographer of the Year 2003, Portrait Photographer of the Year 2005 and UK Wedding Photographer of the Year 2008.

Mission Statement: ‘ To free myself photographically and to share that freedom, that moment in time, with like-minded people.’
